While Lacan insists that meaning and being are caught in an exclusive either-or relationship, Merleau-Ponty suggests that we live in both: “Meaning is invisible, but the invisible is not the contradictory of the visible: the visible itself has an invisible inner framework, and the in-visible is the secret counterpart of the visible” (1968, 215).
